wez_tdi Posted July 24, 2013 Report Posted July 24, 2013 Hi all,My dads had a Galaxy for years, the turbo died on it a short while ago and wiped the engine out... so its now gone.He has replaced it with another Ford Galaxy GhiaX with the old 1.9 TDi 90bhp engine (1Z/AHU)... he has had it 3 weeks, with no issues at all.It has been driving fine, but the other day he was on the motorway when he said there as an odd loud 'pop' sound, then a decrease in power. It chugged to a stop at the side of the road, and would only idle with his foot flat to the floor. Now it struggles to start and idle. We have changed the fuel filter, no difference, can suck through the fuel lines with no resistance so I don't think there is a blockage before the fuel injection pump, and the 'fuel solenoid' is clicking open and getting power. It will start and run ok on small squirts of 'easy start' into the intake, but really struggles under its own fuelling before cutting out.A friend has had a look and says the fuel pressure at the injector unions looks very low. Wiring to number 3 injector is intact... not sure how to test it though. My friend seems to think its the actual fuel injection pump?Or internal engine damage http://www.vegetableoildiesel.co.uk/forum/images/smilies/puzzled.gifAny other ideas?or does anyone have a pump with the following numbers:0 460 404 971028 130 115 MCheersWez. Babs' Driver Posted July 25, 2013 Report Posted July 25, 2013 Hi there. As a newby to this forum, please don't berate me for mistakes!Sounds as though something major has failed/broken/fallen off. Check the intake pipes, turbo connections etc. If there's a catastrophic hole in a boost pipe the engine will start but run poorly.I had a fault with my solenoid, but you seem to have ruled that out. There could be an air intake/boost blockage too.Good advice re. the timing/camshaft drivebelt, but if it's broken you'd get nothing at all. It may have slipped a tooth or two.I will keep an eye on this for any progress...good luck! Quote
